“14 tracks respecting the originators : Reinforced”

With the Hardcore/Rave/Junglist revival in full swing (check out Zomby's imminent new album for Werk for a prime example) we're extremely proud to bring you this exceptional 14 track selection put together by Marc Mac, founding member of 4 Hero and its revered imprint Reinforced. The label was set up in 1989 and in its earliest incarnation was responsible for some of the most sought after and influential proto Jungle experiments going, acting as a melting pot and laboratory for a mixture of sounds that would eventually splinter off into variants of Breakbeat, Drum & Bass, Jungle and Garage. Some of this early material has been re-issued in drips and drabs over the years, but many of these tracks have remained frustratingly out of reach for a new generation of heads bewitched by the mastery at work on these legendary releases. Although the artwork and concepts have long since slipped into pastiche, this selection (complete with notes on each track by Marc Mac himself) makes for an essential primer that's utterly indispensable for those of us in need of a Hardcore education, and by our reckoning that means most of us...

Big! Definitely got it right on this one, with Break It Up being a particularly apt choice. Only omission perhaps the Leon Mar track which appeared on the same enforcers double pack.

“Great”

Great selection from this impressive label. Some of my all time fav tracks are here. Too bad the '96 track "Urban Radio" by Icons couldn't be added into this 14 track list.

“Great Stuff...”

Some great tunes here from one of my favourite labels. This really was one of those labels where you looked forward to every new release... and not just because of the artwork! Personally, I would have included 'Only You' by Nookie, 'The Saint' by Wax Doctor and a Paradox tune but all good nonetheless. Semtek... that tune's called 'Confessions'... pure quality.

“Leon Mar”

Yes, there are 2 ace Leon Mar tracks on the 'Above the Law' comp (one as Arcon 2) . I wondered what happened to him? His album never lived up to those initial expectations.

“Search Engine & Eniac / Syrix”

Dear Boomkat, Please try to get MP3s of releases by the above artists. All released on "The R" in about 1999/2000 I was Syrix and half of Search Engine and I don't have any vinyl of the music I released. Also, "Fish Eggs" by Hidden Agenda is a classic that needs to be heard again. Excellent selection. Good work!

“niiiiiiiiice!”

Great selection from a cool label. Gotta agree with some of the other commentators - that Chris Energy track is ace - particularly good! It would've been nice to hear some of those great Arcon 2 singles, but maybe he's not quite one of the "originators".
