“14 tracks : the best of 2008 Part 1”

With the year almost out we thought it the right time to single out our picks for 2008, this being the first selection of highlights from what's been a brilliantly varied and exciting year for new music. We've particularly enjoyed the ever-evolving face of Bass music, from Wonky to Bassline and Funky, to Dubstep, Techno and our favourite kind of woozy, narcotic House - all typified by tracks from the likes of Pangaea, Martyn, Newworldaquarium, Actress, Headhunter and Hudmo keeping it fresh. In sharp contrast, we've been bewitched by the displaced post-ambience, shortwave radio signals and sparkling drones of Stephan Mathieu and the Fun Years - producing two of the most absorbing albums you'll have the pleasure of hearing this year. Watch out - Part two to follow next week...

Take part! Leave a comment!

What do you think of this selection?
Any suggestions?

“The Shed Track and more”

This is such a great selection. I think it's been an amazing year so far, well done boomkat for continually presenting and previewing and teasing me with lovely tunes. On my radio show (http://bovineradio.wordpress.com) I post many links to boomkat as the ability to preview full tracks is extremely useful.

“Can't fault those choices”

Looking forward to Part: 2 Good call on Pangaea, I would've been amazed had it not been included from the off !! Hopefully a release from Immerse on Part 2. It's defo not easy to compile

“Good discovery”

Not heard Shed before, but Estrange is amazing. Simple, drifting chords with a headnod accompaniment. Cracking.

“a different drum”

The Stephan Matthieu track is a jewel I'm old enough to remember the festive fifty. 28 tracks is not enough to celebrate 08.

Great, high quality, wide-ranging selections. Fab. Only two in the list I actually have (Fun Years & Stephan Matthieu) and both are in my personal faves of '08. At first glance I would have said that many of the others were too 'dancefloor' orientated for me but this list will make me broaden my horizons! Looking forward to Part 2..........

“Trust In Boomkat”

This is probably the only place where I'd spend my money on such a collection of individual picks without second guessing the choices. And I thought that I had my selection of Best of 2008 down packed... I guess after hundreds of albums I reviewed there are still a few I must absolutely pick up! Looking forward to the rest! Make my wallet bleed! Please!
