“14 tracks of Hip Hop a la mode”

Some people have already dubbed this kind of Hip Hop "Wonky" - a mostly instrumental variant that features out-of-tune synths, loose time signatures and sample edits from unexpected sources. The late, great Jay Dee perhaps did more than anyone to prepare the ground for this next-level beat science, followed by his disciple Madlib and a whole raft of current producers like Flying Lotus, Dabrye, Hudson Mohawke and Rustie. If all of these names mean nothing to you - this selection has been put together to introduce you to a world of squashed beats and innovative production that has already been quietly influencing the mainstream for a while. Think of it as Hip hop with Ice Cream on...
