Chilean ex-pat Matias Aguayo first came to our attention back at the turn of the century with the heart-stopping 'One Two Three (No Gravity)' recorded with cohort Dirk Leyers under the Closer Musik moniker. We were instantly seduced by his distinctive melodic yet rhythmically driven style, taking cues from his South American homeland, mixed up with the minimised disco sound of his chosen home, Cologne. Earlier on in his career Aguayo had already worked with Michael Mayer as Zimt, marking him out as an individual talent in the often characterless world of mnml, before going on to record genre-defying records for Kompakt, Soul Jazz and his own recently minted Cómeme imprint. His brilliant 'Minimal' track for Kompakt parodied the genre with it's sharp blend of acerbic wit and delicious latin disco grooves, while his BumBumBox posse have been inciting parties across Europe and South America with a blend of raw house aesthetics and a sensuous Latin sensibility that makes his music so addictive and intoxicating.
